Missional Church at Urbana 2009

Intervarsity's student conference Urbana (Dec 27 - 31) will be hosting a track on the missional church led by PGF leader and Columbia Seminary president Steve Hayner and Peachtree Presbyterian pastor Cheryl Hayner. Along with the introduction that the larger conference will provide to what God is doing in the world-wide church, this track will focus specifically on the practice and theology of the Missional Church. Below is the description found on the website: his track is designed for pastors, seminary students and church leaders who are interested in building a mission vision in their church. The goal of the track will be to help participants engage the Urbana experience and Urbana resources in the context of their leadership roles in the church. Overview This track will focus on the theology and practice of a missional church with practical ideas as well as opportunities for questions and discussion. There will be both a residential and non-residential option. Those choosing to be housed in the track hotel will participate in the morning manuscript Bible study with other pastors and church leaders. Discussion and application for the studies will be positioned in the context of ministry and the church setting. Those who prefer to be housed with students from their church will participate with their church group in the morning Bible study where they are housed. All track participants will have access to three "Pastors and Church Leaders only" seminars offered during the first afternoon seminar slot. These seminars will focus on the missional church in worship, formation, and outreach, respectively, and will include speakers and panel discussion. Participants will have access during these seminars to conference leadership and some of the platform speakers. During the second afternoon seminar time participants will be free to choose from the many Urbana seminars offered. Suggestions will be provided for those seeking topics particularly appropriate to the church setting. Participants will also have access to a special Guest and Pastors/Church Leaders Lounge for quiet conversation, networking and relaxation during the busy conference schedule. The Lounge will also provide a display to preview resources for pastors and church leaders that will be available for sale in the Urbana store. Participants will also be provided with information about optional meetings hosted by mission agencies that focus on church partnerships and their exhibit locations in the exhibit hall. Who should come? Pastors, church leaders, lay leaders, and seminary students. Track Director: Donna Wilson, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Track Hosts: Dr. Steve Hayner and Rev. Sharol Hayner Steve Hayner is the President of Columbia Theological Seminary. He currently serves on the Board of the International Justice Mission, World Vision/ USA and World Vision International. He was previously the President of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA (1988-2001). Sharol Hayner is the Associate Pastor for Discipleship at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. She is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary and has also served at Park Street Church in Boston, University Presbyterian Church in Seattle, and Christ Presbyterian Church in Madison, Wisconsin.

Funding Mission in the PCUSA

This overview of mission funding in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is designed to help sessions, mission committees and church staff make sound decisions about the use of their mission funds. It provides basic information. While the focus of this primer is on how mission funds ?ow to and through the PC(USA), many congregations also support mission through other mission agencies. God is at work in exciting ways around the world, and many Presbyterians share Presbyterian Global Fellowship’s commitment to partnerships in mission that include btraditional PC(USA) partners.
